J.Willi is a sonic study of a remarkable 48-hour window in musical history. Born just one day apart, James “J. Dilla” Yancey and John Williams represent the two poles of 20th-century sound: one the master of the symphonic scale, the other the architect of the rhythmic “human” feel.
By applying the influence of Dilla’s signature “drunk” swing and raw MPC textures to the sophisticated orchestral DNA of John Williams’ scores, Colin Emmanuel explores the friction and the flow between these two titans. It is a bridge between the grand concert hall and the basement beat-tape, proving that legacy is a continuum.
